Genericity – SQL to REST API

Genericy turns SQL queries into ready-to-use REST APIs in minutes, reducing the manual effort required to build and maintain backend interfaces. It combines fast API delivery with database flexibility, secure authentication, caching and monitoring options for projects from MVP stage to production scale.

Target users

Genericy is intended for independent software developers, startups, small and mediumsized software and AI companies, and development teams that need to expose database logic through APIs quickly. It is particularly suitable for organizations that are not themselves subject to KRITIS or NIS2 requirements but work with customers in regulated or critical sectors and therefore value structured, auditable security concepts.

Description

Genericy, an external service provided by Spicetech GmbH, is a SQL-to-REST API platform that generates REST endpoints directly from SQL queries. At runtime, Genericy compiles Java code to provide APIs quickly and efficiently without requiring developers to hand-code standard backend interfaces.

The platform supports multiple database flavours, including MySQL and PostgreSQL, and is designed to fit into existing application architectures. Integrated Keycloak support enables role-based authentication and access control. Optional Redis integration supports high-performance caching, while Sentry integration helps teams monitor and diagnose application issues.

Genericy can be deployed self-hosted or consumed as a managed service. The service offering uses a usage-based pricing model, allowing teams to start small and scale costs with actual adoption. Genericy can be used as the API foundation for a new product and, where technically appropriate, can later be complemented by or selectively replaced with custom-written endpoints.

Applications

Typical applications include rapidly building backend APIs for MVPs and new digital products; exposing existing database logic to web, mobile or AI applications; creating data services for internal tools and integrations; reducing repetitive API boilerplate in customer projects; and scaling data-intensive interfaces with Redis caching. Genericy is also suitable for teams that want a fast starting point while retaining the option to add specialized custom endpoints for individual use cases.

How to get access

Genericy is available both as a self-hosted product and as a managed service. Teams can begin with a small deployment or usage level and scale as their application grows.
